Ancestral Flavors: Costa Rican Countryside Food Tour

5 hours

Easy

Traditional food, folklore, nature & a gentle walk to swim in a river or waterfall.

Step into the real Costa Rica — off the tourist path and into a small riverside village where time moves with the sun and stories are passed down through generations.

You’ll travel to Playón, a countryside village near Parrita, where four generations of Doña Yuri’s family have lived next to the Parrita River. Her home sits beneath tall trees filled with scarlet macaws and surrounded by playful, rescued dogs. Her siblings live just down the road — a Costa Rican Macondo, where nearly half the village is made up of extended family.

At the heart of this experience is Doña Yuri, a grandmother of indigenous heritage, a farmer, cook, and storyteller. She welcomes you to her rancho — a shaded outdoor kitchen and dining area — where she prepares everything over firewood using ingredients grown on her land.
